Act Now - Ask U.S. Representatives and Senators to Support Education in the Final FY2022 Funding Bill
As Congress works to finalize the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 spending bills, we must demonstrate strong support for international basic education to build back from the learning losses of COVID-19 and maintain our commitment to children and youth around the world. Failing to act quickly risks losing decades of progress in global education and severely limiting future opportunities for generations of young people.
Please contact your Representative and Senators to support international basic education in the final FY2022 Senate State and Foreign Operations bill, by providing at least $950 million for International Basic Education, including $125 million for the Global Partnership for Education and $25 million for Education Cannot Wait, as the House of Representatives included in H.R. 4373, the House FY2022 State and Foreign Operations bill and accompanying report language.
Education is a force-multiplier for international development with a high return on investment. For every $1 spent on education, as much as $15 is generated in economic growth. Prior to the COVID-19 emergency, 258 million children were out of school. Currently, the number is over a billion, a six-fold increase. Vulnerable children and youth, teachers, and communities need our support to focus on inclusive education for all children and youth.
It is critical that you let your Representative and Senators know that you support investments in foreign assistance and international basic education. A unified global effort could not only stave off the worst impacts of the emergency, but could lay the foundation for inclusive education around the world, so we all can build back better.
GCE-US works to ensure that all children have access to quality, inclusive education. Please join and take action with us! Let your Members of Congress know that you believe all children and youth around the world should have quality, inclusive education.
