Fund International Basic Education in FY26

As Congress begins deliberations on federal funding for Fiscal Year 2026, it is imperative that we advocate for programs that educate children and youth worldwide.

U.S.-funded basic education programs provide essential skills in math, reading, and learning—critical not only for global children’s safety and success but also for our nation’s prosperity. Now more than ever, policymakers must prioritize these initiatives to strengthen international partnerships and protect our own national security.

Take a moment to email your Representative, urging them to champion basic education funding by signing on to a Dear Colleague letter in support of these programs. The deadline for them to sign-on is April 29 – please act now!

As a constituent, I urge you to join Rep. Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Rep. Quigley (D-IL), co-chairs of the bipartisan International Basic Education Caucus, to support international Basic Education in Fiscal Year 2026. Funding for international basic education ensures a future for America that is safer, stronger, and more prosperous. When young people have access to secondary education, support for political violence decreases. Education programs counter the influence of China and other adversaries. And for every extra year of schooling, hourly earnings increase by 9% later in life, setting up low- and middle-income countries to be trading partners and markets for U.S. exports. U.S.-funded basic education programs increase access to quality education, provide children with foundational reading, math, social and emotional learning skills, and prepare youth for successful careers. These investments help reduce poverty, support future trade partners, improve the global economy, bolster peace and security, and strengthen public health.
