Global to Local

Last week, I attended a meeting at the United Nations in preparation for this summer’s 4th International Conference on Financing for Development. It was a meaningful opportunity to support our GCE Global colleagues and advocate on the world stage for increased investment in international basic education programs.

At GCE-US, our members not only gain from our deep connections with policymakers in Washington, D.C., but also from a dynamic global coalition of advocates, strengthening our collective voice for education. Being part of the GCE family amplifies our reach, allowing us to make a greater impact beyond borders.

If you haven’t already, we invite you to join us as an organizational or individual member. Feel free to also take a look at our new 2024 Impact Report. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the movement for education equity worldwide!

Sincerely,

Giulia McPherson
Executive Director

Protecting Global Education Funding

Budget season is in full swing, and the GCE-US Advocacy Committee has been hard at work meeting with congressional offices and disseminating the Fiscal Year 2026 funding request for international basic education programs. While the President’s request falls far short of what is needed, we’re counting on Congress to support time-tested education programs that build communities and make America stronger.

To that end, on May 7 we sent a letter from GCE-US members to congressional leaders urging them to fund international basic education programs in the FY26 budget. You can read the letter in its entirety below.

Welcome 2025 GCE-US Youth Advocates

We are excited to introduce our 2025 Youth Advocates cohort! From a pool of exceptional applicants, the GCE Youth Engagement Committee has selected eight outstanding young leaders who demonstrate dedication to education and advocacy.

Beginning this month, GCE-US Youth Advocates will embark on an intensive training program focused on leadership, communication skills, advocacy strategies, and whole child education policy. Their journey will culminate with an Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill this July, where they will put their newly acquired skills into practice.

Member Spotlight: Street Child US

One of GCE-US’s newest members, Street Child US believes that achieving universal basic education is the single greatest step that can be taken towards the elimination of global poverty, and that every child deserves the chance to go to school and learn.

Street Child US-led interventions focus on education, economic empowerment and protection programming. Programs are integrated to confront challenges, assuring safety with the goal of increasing access to schooling. By making immediate change for children at the same time as increasing the capacity of caregivers, communities and schools, Street Child US supports children to be safe, in school and learning long term.
